Our Goals: Climate Change Mitigation, Biodiversity Conservation, and Poverty Reduction

Nature Inspires!

Sustainable Livelihood

We believe that sustainable communities are built through the shared involvement of local people who are empowered to be an integral part of the rebuilding process. With this grassroots approach, SSEAFA enables people devastated by conflict and disaster to become part of the solution.

Biodiversity Conservation

Engaging local communities in biodiversity conservation through agroforestry systems in the Bandarban Hill tracts involves a multifaceted approach that combines education, economic incentives, community participation, and sustainable practices. Here are some strategies to effectively engage the local communities:

Our Priority is Protecting The Environment

The Sustainable Socio-Economic Agroforestry Association (SSEAFA) is a cooperative and partnership-driven regional organisation promoting sustainable land-use systems through agroforestry. Established to address rural poverty, deforestation, and ecological degradation, SSEAFA bridges traditional wisdom with modern sustainability practices to ensure inclusive growth and ecosystem health.

SSEAFA’s cooperative model enables community members, farmers, researchers, and local entrepreneurs to share knowledge, resources, and benefits in an equitable manner. We believe that long-term prosperity depends on maintaining ecological balance, promoting social justice, and fostering participatory governance.

Our approach is holistic — integrating ecological restoration, agroforestry innovation, and economic empowerment. By combining indigenous knowledge systems, scientific research, and market access, SSEAFA builds sustainable value chains that benefit both nature and people.

Agroforestry Development Program

We develop integrated agroforestry systems combining cash crops such as cashew, coffee, banana, fruits, bamboo, and cane with timber, medicinal, and native tree species. This enhances soil fertility, biodiversity, and farm productivity while ensuring sustainable income for smallholders.

null

Forest and Landscape Restoration Initiative

SSEAFA supports community-based reforestation efforts to rehabilitate degraded lands, restore watersheds, and preserve native flora and fauna. Indigenous communities play a central role in the planning and management of these landscapes.

Sustainable Livelihoods & Value Chains

We train local producers in eco-friendly cultivation, post-harvest processing, and cooperative marketing to ensure fair trade and added value for regional products. SSEAFA also fosters partnerships with ethical buyers to strengthen market access.

Research, Education & Capacity Building

Our research focuses on agroecology, soil health, carbon sequestration, and biodiversity monitoring. Through workshops, training sessions, and farmer field schools, we empower communities with knowledge and practical tools for sustainable land management.

Climate Resilience & Biodiversity Conservation

By promoting diversified farming and ecosystem-based adaptation, SSEAFA enhances community resilience to climate change while conserving native biodiversity and water resources.

LIVESTOCK FARMING
